WHOA! Hip Hop Harambee!

In a vibrant showcase of talent and culture, the Hip Hop Harambee Finale took center stage at the Octavia E. Butler Magnet Auditorium on July 13, 2023. This electrifying event, which marked the culmination of a six-week Performing Arts Academy, left a lasting impact on the audience of almost 600 people.

Hip Hop Harambee, a program directed by the passionate SuNWhoa Love, brought together over 130 students from Grades K-8, each of whom contributed their unique artistic expressions. The site coordinators, program partners and youth advocates played a crucial role, teaching various disciplines such as dance, vocals, film production, West African dance, drama, songwriting/poetry, and ensuring smooth coordination during rehearsals and the show.

The Finale boasted an impressive lineup, featuring 130 scholars who showcased their art, dance, vocals, drama, and poetry. Additionally, the audience was treated to music videos from the elementary and middle school groups, adding an extra layer of creativity to the evening.

The climax of the night came with the much-anticipated finale performance of the Professor Whoa song "Ashe," produced by SuNWhoa Love, Wayne Linsey, and Candace Lacy. The stage, adorned with captivating graffiti art by Ronnie Robles, provided a visually stunning backdrop for the performers.
